Last week, I finished reading The Brothers Hawthorne by Jennifer Lynne Barnes. The fourth book in The Inheritance Games series, this mystery is about Grayson and Jameson Hawthorne several months after the events of the third book. While Grayson goes to Phoenix, Arizona, to help his twin half-sisters, Gigi and Savannah, and hide a secret from them about their father, Sheffield Grayson, Jameson infiltrates an exclusive club, The Devil's Mercy, with Avery in London. On these separate missions, the two brothers must decide how far they're willing to go to accomplish their goals.
Although I enjoyed this book much more than The Final Gambit, I did not like it as much as the first two books in the series. There's just something about Jameson and Avery that doesn't work for me, but I did love learning about Grayson's half-sisters and I think his moral dilemma of wanting to protect them while at the same time hiding secrets from them was utterly fascinating. Getting more of his relationships with his brothers, Nash and Xander, was pretty great, as well. What I did like about the Jameson chapters was finally meeting his father and the setting. I've always found secret societies and clubs captivating, so that kept me interested in Jameson's adventure. I was also glad that Avery was only a side character and the focus was on the Hawthorne brothers in this book. The end of The Brothers Hawthorne sets up the next book in the series nicely and I recommend reading it if you can't get enough of the world of The Inheritance Games.
